Flat Racing Rules
- These rules are in addition to the General Racing Rules.
- For a club to become a member of BFRA organising Flat Races, it must have the capacity to operate National Qualifier events, namely:
- A flat flying area, preferably with additional clear ground surrounding it, allowing a 400 metre smooth, level course.
- A screened starting box with the Falcon being released no more than 15 metres from the starting beam.
- A screened Finish area to allow Falcons to be removed from sight of the next competitor.
- One or more Timekeepers who have no declared interest in any of the competitors.
- A Secretary to organise the competitor and classes and to record results and submit them to BFRA to qualify them for international competition.
- The Flat Races can include events for different ages or species of Falcon and for different classes of competitors.
- The race distance is 400 metres along a smooth, level track.
- The start and finish lines are in infra-red or radar beam gates connected together to record timings to 0.001 seconds accuracy and screened at 0.01 seconds accuracy.
- The Falcon must pass through both start and finish gates.
- The start gate is 5 metres wide and the Falconer must stand no further than 15 metres from the beam.
- The finish gate is no more than 20 metres wide and 20 metres high at the beam.
- The Falconer can call the Falcon using only the lure (tilwah) and must stand behind the finish gate.
- The dress of the Falconer can be any type specified by the race Organisers.
- On unhooding the Falcon, the Falconer must keep his hand static. Attempts to launch the Falcon from the hand will disqualify the entry.
- A Falcon which fails to start after one minute from being unhooded will be disqualified.
- If a Falcon fails to complete the course within three minutes it will be disqualified.
- If the Falcon wanders off, the Timekeeper will decide whether or not to fly the next Falcon.
- If a Lost Falcon is still not recovered, the Falconer of the next Falcon has the right to refuse to fly because of risk to his own Falcon. In this case his Falcon will be moved to the last position in the Flying Order
